Temporary Blessings - Fata Morgana b/w Silence Leaves An Open Wound - 7'' Vinyl
College Of Knowledge Records
$25
Assembled to realise McGorry’s compositions drawing on 1960s Italian & French soundtrack music (a la Ennio Morricone, Francois de Roubaix, Piero Piccioni, Edda dell’Orso & Alain Goraguer), Temporary Blessings brings together trusted confidants & instrumentalists from Melbourne’s rich enclave of cinematic soul, members of Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo & Let Your Hair Down.
The resulting recordings (produced by in-house College Of Knowledge producer Henry Jenkins) realise McGorry’s sonic visions of film noir, giallo, library music & cinematic soul, captured live in one room with what the maestro describes as “a shared spirit”.
A-Side, Fata Morgana is a simmering, mid tempo staunch groover, layering a steadfast rhythm section with a soaring wind & string motif, and gorgeous vibraphone, which comes to a climax in the middle breakdown, evoking the beauty of the natural mirage phenomena.
B-Side, Silence Leaves an Open Wound is a nod to Maestro Morricone’s love themes, a beautiful cantabile melody passed between the ensemble, simple changes and an effortless downtempo groove. A meditation on the dangers of leaving important things left unsaid.
